Phonics reading books- Floppy’s Phonics
We have some new Floppy’s Phonics books and resources in school. These books and resources are used alongside Letters and Sounds and Jolly phonics. They are part of The Oxford Reading scheme with very familiar characters!
We use the Jolly phonics actions to help our children to recognise and remember the letter sounds they have learnt in school. This multi-sensory approach makes learning fun and easy for children.
Below is a link so you can also learn the actions to support your child at home.
Reading book bands
Our books are banded into colour bands. Your child’s guided reading book will have a colour band on it. Use the link below to see what level your child is reading at.
High frequency words and tricky words.
You child needs to learn to read and spell the most common words used in English. In school these words are ordered to link with the Letters and Sounds Phases.
Your child will bring home a set of words they need to practise to read and spell at home.
Try to practise them at least three times a week. See if your child can find them in sentences they read or write them in their own sentences. Click on the links below.
Reading Record books
Don’t forget- When you read with your child remember to write in your child’s reading record book. Write a comment on how your child has done, the date and which page your child has read to.
