What are School Streets?
A School Street is a road outside a school with a restriction on motorised traffic at school drop-off and pick-up times. The restriction applies to school traffic and through traffic. Residents and businesses in a School Street will still be able to access these roads by car during the restrictions.
This School Street scheme has the support of the school and local councillors. It is a way for school communities to tackle air pollution, poor health and reduce road danger.
A School Street:
eases school-related congestion from your neighbourhood
makes the air where you live fresher and cleaner at these times
gives children the chance walk, scoot or cycle to school, which helps them stay healthy
makes the roads safer for everyone.
How will it work?
The Council will use a traffic management order to turn a street into a pedestrian and cycle zone. This creates a School Street. Bradford City Council will introduce a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) to prohibit traffic at drop-off and pick-up times, during term time around Girlington Primary School.
Emergency vehicles and Blue Badge holders will have access at all times as well as other eligible vehicles such as taxis and postal service providers.
We will put signs in appropriate places to tell drivers which roads are reserved for people on foot, bikes or
scooters together with the times it will apply. We are also working with the school to help support families
who have no choice but to drive to school.
This TRO is permanent. You can contact us about this on 01274 432111 or email

Thank you for your support and participation in helping everyone stay safe.
