Summer Term

It has been an exciting and successful summer term for children at Girlington Primary School. A professional cricket coach from West Yorkshire County has been coaching all pupils in Year 6. The pupils have become more confident and proficient in the great game of cricket. Bradford Bulls coaches have been teaching the skills of rugby to the children in Year 2 and Year 4.The children thoroughly enjoyed the coaching provided which in turn has enhanced their knowledge of contact sports. Girls from Year 4 and Year 5 have had the opportunity to work with a female professional cricket coach from Great Horton Cricket Club. The girls are in training for an upcoming tournament taking place on the 12th of July 2017

At the beginning of May , six Year 5 children took part in a Young Leaders Workshop at the Beckfoot Thornton School. The young leader's workshop provided Year 5 pupils with the skills and knowledge allowing them to lead their own games and activities in the playground with the younger children at break and lunchtimes. On the 4th May 2017, under 11's netball team participated in a netball competition at the Beckfoot Thornton School. The team played with enthusiasm which secured them a place in the West Bradford Finals.

The Bradford School Games Determination Baton arrived at Girlington Primary School on Wednesday 10th May 2017. Children from Lidget Green Primary School delivered the Determination Baton to the children in the Year 4. The Baton was passed on to Mike Tetley at Beckfoot Thornton School by Girlington Primary school's Year 5 young leaders. Schools were invited to use the baton to promote the schools games value; passion, determination, honesty, team work, respect and self-belief in their schools as well as to celebrate sports and physical activity.

 The John Charles Centre for Sports in Leeds held an inclusion athletics day,  4 children from Girlington Primary were in attendance, and the children took part in track and field events. The children made a storming impact at the event with one Year 4 boy winning the 80m track event.

On the 15th May the under 9' boys and under 9' girls football team took part in the Bradford and Keighley schools     5 v 5 football festival at  Marley Stadium. Despite the wt conditions both teams played with determination showing good sportsmanship skills. The girls team performed exceptionally well at the tournament. They finished third in the group, winning two games, drawing two and only loosing one. The boys finished 1st place in their group, securing themselves a place in the semi-finals, only to lose 1 -0.

The sports Mentors applied for some new sports equipment through the Premier League Primary Stars initiative. They were successful in their application and the new equipment will be delivered in September.

The under 11' mixed cricket tournament at the Bradford Park Avenue on Wednesday 18th May was an amazing event. Everyone, played with skill, passion, determination, pride, and with perfect sporting attitude.

Congratulations to the under 11' rounders team who played against  7 other schools in the West Bradford district at the Bradford Girls Grammer School on the 14th June 2017. The competitveness and the enthusiasm  on display at the tournament secured the team a bronze medal.

Under 11's girls cricket tournament was held at the Bradford Park Avenue on the 12th June of which the girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves and fully immersed themselves in the game of cricket.

The Bradford School Games was held on Friday June 30th 2017 at the University Academy in Keighley. Girlington Primary Schools tag rugby team represented the school with enthusiasm and demonstrated great sportsmanship. The under 9's boy's football team represented the schools at the Bradford School games coming 3rd in their league. Again the boys displayed great sportsmanship as well as good gamesmanship. Congratulations, to the under 9's tennis team securing themselves a 3rd place finish, winning bronze after competing against various schools across Bradford district.

Well done to children from ARC, winning the bronze at the Bradford School Games Panathlon on Friday 30th June 2017. The children thoroughly enjoyed all the activities and participated to te best of their ability. At the Panathlon Event Shahayana Begum won the West Yorkshire Highly Commended award for her participation in spoirt. Shahayna was nominated for the award by Mrs Hussain and Mrs Simpson in March 2017 through the Panathlon Charity.

On the Friday 7th July 2017, 10 children from Girlington Primary School will represent the school at the West Yorkshire summer finals participating the change 4 life festival at the Leeds Beckett University.

Throughout all the competitions, all the children who represented the school demonstrated excellent sportsmanship at every opportunity, as well as outstanding behaviours for learning whilst striving to be the best they can be. I hope we now can maintain these high standards met and continue to celebrate more success in the next academic year.
