Deaf musician visits to work with ARC pupils on developing their music skills
On Thursday 3rd January, Key Stage 2 ARC pupils took part in a workshop run by Deaf musician Sean Chandler. Sean, a talented musician and Teacher of the Deaf, is well-known for his work nationally in promoting music for deaf children. He has run many workshops all over the country and also works for the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS). The pupils were highly engaged in the session and built up a rapport very quickly with Sean. They took part in a range of activities and Sean also gave then an expert lesson in how to play their brass instruments, which they are already learning to play in their weekly music sessions run by another visiting music teacher. As a successful Deaf person with a wealth of skills, Sean was an inspiration to the pupils. Sean was also extremely impressed with the confidence and interaction of our children and how they responded to the activities.
We also hosted a number of music teachers from the Music and Arts Service, who observed the workshop and then took part in a question and answer session with Sean, which focussed on how to develop music skills with deaf children.
